  • Has your name been in the newspaper?
  • Did you win an award for outstanding achievement?
  • Was your name up in lights?

Let us know so that we can celebrate your accomplishments!

COLLEGE STUDENTS AND YOUNG ADULTS

Wherever life takes you, we would like to stay in touch with you.  Please call the church office so we can update your file with your new address, phone number and/or new e-mail address.  Letters from home can ease a weary soul, and we would like to remain part of your life even if you are many miles away.

If you are staying in town, let us know that, too, so that we can get together and check in with one another as time permits.  Long time friendships are precious and we would enjoy seeing all of you.

PARENTS:  Help us out with this!  It's always nice to have updated information about our young adults.  They are very busy and sometimes forget to keep us posted, so we need your help.  Thanks!

2010 MISSION TRIP TO SWAN QUARTER IN HYDE COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA

July 23 - August 1, 2010

Hurricanes and unemployment have led to increasing poverty in this community, but you can help.

Along the eastern edge of North Carolina is Hyde County.  Hyde County is 78 miles east of Greenville and 160 miles southeast of Raleigh.  Beautiful inland waterways surround the community and tourists are drawn to the area for its beaches, historic homes and peaceful character.  This charming community was home to the infamous "Blackbeard the Pirate" in the early eighteenth century.

Youth Works will be in the rural village of Swan Quarter, located on Swanquarter Bay, an inlet of Pamlico Sound.  A 25-mile ferry ride across Pamlico Sound will take visitors to Ocracoke Island, home of North Carolina's oldest operating lighthouse, among many other local treasures and landmarks.

The beauty and serenity of this region has often been interrupted by hurricanes.  As a result, construction costs have soared and the lack of affordable housing has become a significant problem.  In addition, the Hyde County unemployment rate is among the highest in North Carolina at 8 percent; and 19 percent of the population lives below the poverty line.

Join the friendly residents of Coastal Carolina and work together to restore the homes and spirits of those who are struggling.  You will find sign-up sheets for students and adults in the high school folder at the Welcome Center.
