CALLING ALL LUTHERAN WOMEN FOR THE

TRIENNIAL GATHERING OF WOMEN OF THE ELCA

Spokane, Washington

July 14-17, 2011

The theme of the Gathering is “Renew, Respond, Rejoice”. Theme verses are Philippians 4:4-9.

Pre– and post-gathering tours are planned to introduce you to the beauty and wonder of Spokane and its environs including gardens, wineries, silver mines, and Lake Coeur d’Alene. You can explore Bing Crosby’s connections to Spokane or push up your sleeves and work a shift at Second Harvest.

Prices will range from $45 to $150. Full details will be available in the registration materials. Registration opens September 15, 2010.

Three guest speakers have been confirmed to date: Nora Gallagher, author and journalist; Leymah Gbowee, peacemaker; and Jane Redmond, educator and spiritual director.

God knows you carry many responsibilities and worries in your lives. You are the backbones of many structures. You run households and businesses, and you support families and friendships.

Our church calls us to serve. Many women make quilts, visit the sick and homebound, make food for funeral lunches and other occasions, and advocate for people in need. Have you discovered your heart for service and found your calling? Learn how to use your gifts/talents to make a difference at the Gathering and beyond.

Rejoice in God’s amazing grace with sisters of all sizes, colors, shapes and dreams. Go to Spokane to hear of God’s love. Stand among 2,000 plus women and hear their voices, celebrating our Christian faith. Attend the Gathering and Rejoice!

Contact Dotty Johnson, Triennial Gathering Promoter, with questions.

“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worth of praise, think about these things. Keep on doing the things that you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you.”

ELIZABETH MINISTRY

Based on the story in Luke's gospel of the relationship between Mary and Elizabeth, this ministry supports mothers in the childbearing years.

The Elizabeth Ministry is an international program based on the story in Luke's gospel of the visitation between Mary and Elizabeth.  We do not meet regularly, but rather meet informally with moms and those who might be expecting or experiencing difficulties.  This includes mentoring moms with love and support, making and delivering meals, and providing baby blankets.

If you know someone who could benefit from an Elizabeth minister, or if you would like to become one, please contact Anna Gonzales.

             HANNAH CIRCLE

Hannah was a barren woman until she sought the Lord for a child, and once blessed with a son, she gave him back to God for service.

YOUNG MOMS -- Please join us for Bible study, prayer and fellowship on the second Monday of the month at 9:15 a.m. at St. Mark's in Sanctuary Hall.  Childcare is provided in the Nursery.

We have playground outings, and meet one evening a month at an off-site location for a fun "Ladies' Night Out".

Contact Karen Veeder for more details.
