"The Breath of Life"

"God is closer to us than our own breath." Thomas Keating, the Christian (Trappist) Monk, was known to say as he taught Centering Prayer. As we celebrate the Feast of Pentecost, we do so in the context of the Gospel of John, acknowledging God's presence and action in our lives, closer to us than our own breath, bestowed in an embrace and a kiss. We consider how this inspires us to share God's abundant love.

Ascension of Our Lord

"Christ is Risen! (Again!)"

Forty is a significant number in the Bible, and the church has kept Ascension on the fortieth day of Easter. That Christ ascended to God the Father to reign over life and death is another way to say that Christ rose from the dead. Thus the Ascension is another Easter Day. Come and see!

"Our Holy Companion"

Our Easter celebration continues as we sink deeper into Jesus' love for us. The gospel reading returns to Jesus' Farewell Discourse helping us get ready for the arrival of the Holy Spirit, letting us know the way love and connection and community are inherent in the way we know the Holy Spirit.

5th Weekend of Easter

"Jesus the Host Welcomes All"

“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?"

Our Gospel for this weekend (John 14:1-14) is commonly heard at funerals and memorial services. It is comforting to know that Jesus prepares a place for our loved one, and for us.

But the kingdom of God is not just in the sweet by and by. Jesus comforts us now. Jesus gives us a place now. Jesus is with us now.

Come hear the good news and be fed by our great Host, Jesus.

"The Door to Abundant Life"

On this Good Shepherd Sunday we hear the Good News about the ways Jesus' love protects us and invites us into the abundant life, just like a door opens up in invitation and closes in protection and shelter.

3rd Weekend of Easter

"Hearts On Fire"

The disciples who encounter the risen Christ notice afterward that their hearts were “burning” within them as Jesus reveals the scriptures and then himself to them in the breaking of the bread. Whether a call to repentance, hope, recognition, or love, people are deeply affected by encounters with the one raised from death to become followers of Jesus’ way. They not only turn from their sin and doubt but literally change direction, going back from Emmaus to Jerusalem with renewed courage, faith, and hope.

"Growing Into Renewal"

This Lenten season, we did a sermon series based on St. Mark's four mission pillars:

    Community Engagement,

    Worship,

    Spiritual Growth and

    Fellowship.

These are how we live out our mission to “Share Christ’s abundant love with each other and the world.” As we continue to grow in God's grace, the resurrection of Jesus reminds us that the difficult times do not define us. Death does not define us. With Jesus, there is always reason to hope. We can always be renewed in Christ! Looking forward to worshiping with you as we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus!
